Queer Art in the Digital Realm: Designing an Immersive Virtual Gallery

In 2020, amidst the challenges of the COVID-19 pandemic, I had the honor of collaborating with Queer Art Mentorship to design a virtual online gallery for their graduating fellows. Traditionally, their work would have been showcased at the LGBT Center, but with in-person exhibitions no longer possible, we needed to create a digital space that could capture the depth and vibrancy of their art.
As the UX Designer on this project, I worked alongside a Game Developer, gabbah baya, to bring this online gallery dreamscape to life. Each room was an interactive multimedia installation, weaving together visual art, performance, and storytelling in an immersive, exploratory experience. This project was more than just a digital exhibition—it was a way to preserve intergenerational and interdisciplinary queer storytelling during a time of isolation. Seeing the impact of this space, where artists could still share their work and connect with audiences despite physical distance, was incredibly meaningful and reinforced my passion for designing experiences that foster connection and creative expression.
